In-house Status
- Initial proposal for team structure
U6
- 4v4, no keeper
- split U5 & U6 separately; 4 U5-groups & 6 U6 groups
- groups play one another in two simultaneous games; mix players on each field on a week-by-week basis
- 10 head coaches with an assistant for each team
- play 3v3 if insufficient subs available
U8
- 4v4 + a keeper
- 12 girls and 12 boys teams
- need to pursue late sign-ups; presently a little light for this structure
- pair-up coaches for practices (since fewer on each roster)
U10
- 6v6 + a keeper
- 8 girls teams and 12 boys teams
U12
- Separate boys and girls
- 4 girls teams, 6v6 + a keeper play on smaller A field
- 6 boys teams, 7v7 + a keeper play on larger A field
U15
- 8v8 + keeper, playing on larger A field
U19
- Limited registration so far; need to pursue; play on highest viable field size with respect to turn-out
- Schedule runs on consecutive Saturdays from 9/6/03 through 10/25/03 (change clocks on 10/26/03)
- Proposed field schedule
- Same eight timeslots as last season: 8:50, 10:10, 11:20, 12:30, 1:40, 2:50, 4:00 & 5:10
- Field A: 2 U12G, 3 U12B & 3 U15
- Field B: 6 U8
- Field C: 6 U8 & 2 U10 (convert to U10 late in the day after U5/U6’s & TOPS are done on E&F and after U8’s done on B Field)
- Field D: 8 U10
- Fields E&F: 4 U5, 6 U6 & TOPS
- This was considered to be feasible by the board, pending the final disposition of the U19 division (John Papinchak to pursue)
- OK if U19 does not materialize
- OK if U19 can play on a weeknight
- Needs to be revised if U19 plays on Saturday (maybe add 6:20 PM timeslot)
- Team construction meeting tentatively scheduled for 8/5 (later changed to 8/4 at 7:30 PM due to Community Room availability)
- Coaches meeting scheduled for 8/18 at 7:30 PM (Community Room was subsequently reserved for that date and time)
- Standard membership meeting on 8/11 from 7:30 to 10 PM
Travel Status
- Development of Boys travel teams is mostly complete
- Four U11B’s were not assigned to a team and John Papinchak has been unsuccessful at finding other players to join them in forming a team; the board sanctions Mark Donoghue to pursue other players to join these four.
- Kim Moses has resigned as Girl’s travel commissioner; Walt Kivala has been temporarily filling in
- The board elected an interim girl’s travel commissioner until other candidates can be found and elected by the association. Only Pat Carter was nominated and was unanimously accepted by the board. Any members interested in this position, or the vacant referee commissioner position should contact a board member. John Papinchak will also more actively pursue possible candidates for these positions.
- U14B & U14G can order old replacement uniform parts, but if all new team uniforms are desired they must obtain the SPSA-approved uniforms
- John Papinchak emphasized the need for confidentiality when dealing with player evaluations
President
- John Papinchak requested that all board members develop 2 or 3 goals for this year to improve our organization. This should include something for the President to achieve.
Web Page
- An initial outline of an SPSA web page structure was presented by Dave Sottosanti for board feedback.
- It was suggested that personal phone numbers be limited on the site to those that are absolutely necessary and have the approval of the individual. E-mail addresses should be more freely provided.
- Requested referee and coach/player development commissioners to suggest web sites for reference linkages
Coach & Player Development
- Developing coaches guidelines for distribution in the coaches package
- Pursuing skills clinics with Mike Blatz during the fall and indoor training over the winter
- Planning a goalkeeper clinic in the spring
Fields & Structures
- New field at Evans is being bid for survey (parking & drainage)
- Other side of Millie Montoro Way (across from A field) is to be filled in and the way widened
- Area in front of concession stand with be upgraded and foot traffic will be rerouted for the fall
