Travel Soccer

This meeting was called to specifically address travel soccer start-up for the new soccer season.  The proceedings were predominately run by the travel soccer commissioners and the referee commissioner.

The following points were made to the coaches:

·        Practice areas will be revised from previous years due to conflicts with high school soccer practices, also being held at the Middle School.  An initial practice schedule and field layout was provided.  Coaches were requested to finalize their practice times at the meeting to facilitate completion of the in-house soccer practice schedule.

·        Duty assignments were previously e-mailed to the coaches.  Field preparation dates were set at the meeting (one representative from each travel team for 3 hours) on 8/28 from 9 AM to 12 PM and 1 to 4 PM or on 9/4 from 9 AM to 12 PM, with rain dates on the next day}.  The procurement commissioner will construct the concession stand assignments once the game schedule is set.  The coaches were urged to clearly identify tasks to their assigned parents and to assure that these assignments are fulfilled.  For teams with the first games of the day, the coach should arrange with the travel commissioners for coordinating field set-up.

·        Coaches need to make sure the parents know the rules, assignments, parking restrictions, etc. to make sure the season runs smoothly.  The township will be ticketing for illegal parking.

·        Uniform pricing (check made out to SPSA); uniforms will not be distributed until payment is received.

$37 for full uniform

$15/$16 for white shirt (youth/adult size)

$14/$15 for blue shirt (youth/adult size)

$17/$18 for shorts (youth/adult size)

$6 for socks

·        Coaches need to make hotel reservations for the Edinboro tournament early.

·        The referee commissioner updated the list of coaches e-mail addresses and phone numbers.  A list of alternate contacts was also developed.

·        The game schedule for only 6 out of 14 teams have been received thus far.  Some games may need to be moved to the Middle school.  No games will be scheduled before 12:00 PM and game times will be assigned based on travel distances and number of games on that field for the day.

·        Blank game cards were distributed and discussed.  Players should be listed alphabetically.  They should only be signed after the game is completed.  Two completed cards are need prior to each game.  A copy of the team roster is also needed.

·        Maximum of three coaches allowed on the sideline.

·        If there is a problem with a referee at a home game, see the referee commissioner (John Alukonis) to discuss.  At away games fill out a game report and submit to PAWest.  There should be no confrontation with the referees.

·        After games make sure the sidelines and the parents areas are clean.

·        Two rule changes for the upcoming season

  1. A yellow card will be given to any player lifting their shirt up or taking it off in a form of celebration
  2. Substitutions (of any number) may be made by the defending team during throw-ins by the attacking team if the attacking team is also substituting at that time.  All substitutions must enter from the midfield line.

·        Game cancellations will be determined by approximately 9 AM on Sunday mornings.  Coaches must call opponents immediately.

·        Make-up games will be scheduled during weeknights.  Coaches should discuss possible dates with their opponents and submit to the referee commissioner 2-3 acceptable days.  The referee commissioner will select a date based on availability of referees and field space.

·        Players will not be permitted to wear any jewelry during games.  Casts should be padded with foam or bubble wrap and must be approved by the referee.

Meeting adjourned 8:25 PM
