Minutes from the previous meeting were reviewed and approved.

Upcoming Dates

·        The next meeting is scheduled for 2/14 (Valentine’s Day).  This was not thought to be a concern and will be held at that time.

·        Picture Day has been scheduled for 4/09/05 and the Community Room has been reserved.

·        Bob Huddart will be scheduling a club referee class for the spring

Constitution and By-Laws

Revision to the constitution and by-laws are proposed.  The revisions were read at this time for association review and were given preliminary approval.  They will also be read at the February meeting, at which time a vote will be taken for final approval.  The major changes are listed below:

  • Addition of an in-house referee commissioner to the board and a description of the associated duties
  • Inclusion of a “dishonesty” bond for the treasurer’s position
  • Development of a hearings and appeals committee
  • Addition of a risk management plan
  • Definition of player eligibility guidelines

In-House

·        A U08 coach asked for a U07 player from the fall to be placed on a U06 team for the spring.  Parents would prefer this, but would support his play in either age group.  The age group commissioner will discuss with the parents and seek a written request for this change.

·        Spring registration to date: 4 U05, 2 U06, 3 U08 (1G/2B), 3 U10 (1G/2B), and 2 U12B

·        Bob Felix requested support in holding additional U09G practices at the Middle School on Sundays in the spring as an introduction to the upcoming travel season.  This would be open to all in-house U09G.  This met with general approval of all present.

Travel

·        Additional teams for the spring U19G (coach?), U16B (tentatively Duncan) and U17B (tentatively Alukonis).  Currently pursuing player registrations.

·        President’s meeting is scheduled for next week.  The date for the Cal-U meeting should be available at that time.

·        U14G (Wilson) played U14-A in the fall and went 4-3-1.  Trying to decide division for the spring.  U14-1 (Papinchak) had similar record and will continue in division 1.

Coach & Player Development

·        E-license class in South Park that was originally scheduled for a weekend (3/18/05 – 3/20/05) needs to be rescheduled due to lack of janitorial support.  PAWest would support weeknight class for four evening.  Pat Carter to pursue 3/29, 3/31, 4/5 and 4/7 6-10 PM.  Need to set dates soon for advertising in the Touchline.  Also need to spread the word to SPSA coaches.

·        Will also pursue PAWest support of player clinics.

Referee

·        A summary of travel referee fees was provided.  Relative to the budget projections, $165 less was actually spent.

·        Proposed referee training compensation.  Specifics in the following areas will be developed:

o       Re-certification fees

o       Bridge courses (progress from grade 9 (lines-only) to grade 8 (centers also))

o       Advanced clinics (grade 7 and above)

o       Cal-U referee training

There are currently ~20 certified referees in SPSA and only a few each year attend bridge or advanced courses.

·        May also propose increased travel referee fees in the future

·        In-house needs more adult referee support; mostly used youth referees in the fall.  Above re-imbursement may draw more interest.  Scheduling of adult referees for Saturday coverage would also be helpful.

Treasurer

Previous balance:     $31,859.19    (11/08/04)

Deposits:                   $         8.10     12/04 interest

Expenses:                  $  1,717.78    Concession, maintenance and returned check

Balance:                     $30,149.51    (01/10/05)

Field Maintenance

·        Too late to re-seed Middle School fields.  Will wait to spring.

·        Fall maintenance successfully completed.

·        New concession stand doors have arrived.  They will be assembled in the spring.

Open Discussion

·        Riverhound summer camp inquiries will be made by Mark Donoghue.
